Day 31 | We’ve Been Robbed!

April 9, 2017

It was really windy in the valley yesterday, so we drove out towards Pahrump and spent most of the day by the side of the road. Brett recorded some audio lessons for his online course and I worked on my writing.

We returned to our campsite late last night once the winds had died down, and decided to sleep in the car. It was too cold for sleeping under the stars. When Brett went to grab his sleeping bag he noticed that his cot was missing. We figured the wind had blown it away and went to bed without giving it much thought. We’d find it in the morning.

When Brett woke up this morning, however, he was unable to find the cot! He also noticed that both of our coolers were missing! What? There’s no way those could have blown away! Someone must have stolen them!

Thankfully, our food wasn’t in the coolers so we’re not going to starve. Brett had gotten two cheap styrofoam coolers and transferred our food into them so that he could dry out our nice coolers. We wanted to let them sit in the sun a while, so we left them at our campsite yesterday. They had gotten wet inside and we were concerned about the possibility of mold growth.

After breakfast this morning, Brett drove down the road to see if he could find the laundry bucket and cot mattress that had gone missing on Friday. We assumed they had blown away, but after driving several miles down the road with no success, he concluded that those probably got stolen too. I guess the thieves came twice! They stole a total of about $400 worth of stuff!

Because of the robbery, we ended up spending half the day just going to Walmart to get a new laundry bucket. Brett dropped me off outside of Pahrump so that I wouldn’t have to be exposed to anything unnecessarily. Needless to say, I got a late start on the laundry and we may need to take an extra day to finish getting ready to leave. I doubt anyone would have a problem with us staying an extra day or two, at least I hope not.

I send out a weekly digest with updates about our adventures. To receive these updates click here.

Wow, I will be praying for your safety on the road, and that whoever stole from you leaves you alone from now on. That’s scary. What they don’t know is how prayed-for you are. I know the Lord will keep you safe, but I pray you don’t lose anything else. I feel like saying as Paul did, Peace be to you, and grace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

It’s alright! We’ve lost a lot more important things to this illness. We’re not to upset. Although it is annoying to have to spend more money to replace things…

That makes me mad! Don’t the robbers know stealing is wrong?

I’m sure they do, but they probably don’t care. 😉

Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry to hear this! We will be praying for you, your safety, and direction as you move.

Question- is living in a motor home a possibility? Or at least a shell of a motor home?
