Day 47 & 48 | Seven Spots in Seven Nights

April 26, 2017

Note: I’m sorry I missed a day of blogging. Brett really needed to use his phone to catch up on work and unfortunately, I am still having to use his phone for everything too. When I tried using mine again yesterday, I reacted immediately. Not good!

I tried to write when we went into town to buy water but my brain just froze up completely. I couldn’t get any words out! I was so frustrated that I told Brett, “I hate my blog!” which isn’t true at all. Today, I’m writing in the good air and the words are coming much more easily. It’s amazing that air quality can make such a difference. Brett was joking that I should call my post “How to Get Twice as Smart by Driving Out of the City.”

We spent most of yesterday driving to Las Cruces and then looking for places to camp in the area. In the end we decided to head towards Alamogordo and found a decent place to camp in Lincoln National Forest. I say decent because the spot we found isn’t ideal. I feel okay here but it’s not very private and we can see the highway. Not to mention, there are at least five unrestrained cows that roam around here. But hey, it works for now.

We’re only planning to stay until the weather gets nice again in the Albuquerque area. Then maybe we’ll try to find a campsite in Jemez Springs or go back to El Malpais National Monument. We really did like our campsite there. We’ll see. We’re definitely longing for a little more stability. Even just staying in the same spot for one month would be wonderful! Last night, we were shocked to realize it was the first time in over a week that we were sleeping in the same place two nights in a row. We’re so tired of moving around!

When we finally find another spot that works well we’re at least going to try asking for an exception to the 2 week camping limit. Then once it gets warm enough in Wyoming, we’re planning to head up there to start looking at cargo vans. I can’t wait!

Today, I spent most of the day doing laundry, showering and going through the stuff we had in the trunk. A lot of it was contaminated with something really awful and needed to be thrown out. It was the same prickly itchy toxin that came on the really bad Walmart sleeping bag several weeks ago. It cross contaminated like mad and there was a lot of stuff that “went bad” that I hadn’t noticed.

I knew this particular biotoxin wouldn’t wash out because we had tried washing contaminated items multiple times and it didn’t help at all. So I just tossed everything that made my skin feel itchy or prickly. After I was done, I did not feel very good. The skin on my arms burned and I was exhausted. I had more joint and muscle pain this evening too. But the job needed to be done and I was the only one who could do it. Brett isn’t sensitized to biotoxins and he can’t feel them at minute levels like I can. So, I’m glad I was able to do it but even more glad that it’s over!

I hope Wyoming works out for you! I have a lot of family there, so if you need anything, I’m sure we can find a way to hook you up.
