Day 81 | The Trouble with Campgrounds

May 29, 2017

This morning we decided we would just go back to the campground we were staying at before we left for Wyoming. It’s not perfect but it’s tolerable. I’m not sure what it is but sometimes I feel really good there and other times I don’t feel quite so good. It might have to do with the wind direction or the other campers or the campfires.

Still, we are super behind on laundry and a known quantity felt safer than trying something new. We can look for a better campground another day.

I got to use our spin dryer for the first time today. It’s AWESOME! You just stick the clothes in, plug it in and it spins all the water out of them. It definitely saves time on wringing everything out by hand. Not to mention, it also cuts drying time way down. I’m so thankful for whoever invented this miraculous contraption! Even washing the bedding wasn’t too bad!

At around 5pm, It was time to prepare dinner. I was exhausted from the days work so I decided to try this organic canned vegetable soup that Brett picked up at the grocery store and just add some meat to it. Unfortunately, I started to feel really awful just as I was opening the first can. I felt a stabbing sensation in my chest accompanied by light-headedness, weakness, and a deep pain in both my legs. Oh dear! Was I reacting to the soup?

Brett was at the main building so that he could get enough wifi to do some work and I texted him to let him know I needed help. He came running immediately! He helped me to wash myself and change but I still felt really bad.

We discussed what it could be. Was it something in the air? What about those new campers who just arrived? Did they have a moldy car or a contaminated tent? Did the wind change directions?

When I didn’t clearly react to a bite of the soup we decided we probably needed to change locations and see if that would help. We grabbed our clean laundry, tidied up the campsite and left for Rapid City.

When we arrived in town I got out of the van and decontaminated again. This time I started to feel a bit better. “It must have been something in the air at the campsite. Maybe those new people? Bummer! I hope they’re not planning to stay for long!”

We decided that going back tonight probably wasn’t a good idea so we heated up our shower water at a gas station and are going to sleep in the truck parking area again.

I send out a weekly digest with updates about our adventures. To receive these updates click here.

Just want to mentionned something about your can soup…Do you know if the can was without BPA? Because BPA is a toxin also and you could react to it as it is a endocrinien disruptor that affect the cell oestrogen receptor……

Yeah… It was BPA free, unfortunately. I wish it was just the can as that would be a much easier fix.
