Day 146 | An Opportunity Help “Our” Ranchers

    August 2, 2017

About a month and a half ago, Brett and I decided to approach some of the ranchers in the area to ask if we could camp on their land. The campgrounds in the Black Hills had become intolerable for me but the air still felt amazing in the ranching areas near Rapid City.

It was a bold move, but we were desperate. We sort of expected them to say no… instead, they welcomed us onto their property and refused to let us pay them anything. They let us use their water and their power outlet. They even invited us to use the refrigerator in their shop so we wouldn’t have to keep spending money on ice for our coolers.

They’ve been such a blessing! We’ve tried to express our gratitude through gift cards and flowers but nothing ever felt like it was quite enough. After all, their hospitality gave us stability in the middle of one of the most uprooted seasons of our lives. How valuable is that?!

Well, an opportunity has finally come for us to bless them in return! The drought these last two years has been really rough and they’re having to spend a lot of money on hay for the cows. Well, we found out that the husband has a business idea that could really help them out if it took off. He’s invented hay feeders that are much more durable than the standard kind that most ranchers use. All the ranchers who have tried them love them and he’d like to start selling them.

Well… we don’t know anything about ranching but Brett does know a lot about how to start a successful business. We figured this was our chance to help!

So, the last couple days Brett has been talking to other ranchers to find out if there’s a demand for the product and how to present it in an effective way. Today he spent the morning capturing video of the feeders with the cows so he can put together a website. We’ll see how it goes. I do hope it’s a success!

By the way, Brett and I made a beautiful PDF of my favorite resources for suffering souls. I created the content and he made it look fancy with his superduper graphic design skills. It’s available for free to my email subscribers. Click here to sign up and receive 5 Resources for the Suffering Soul.
