This morning we went to America’s Mailbox to pick up a new organic latex mattress that we ordered on Amazon. It’s hard to believe that it’s only been two months since we’ve had our bed and it’s already time to replace our mattress. But I can’t deny that the old mattress feels contaminated. I haven’t been sleeping as well and have been waking up in pain again.
The most plausible theory for why, is that my own body slowly contaminated it as I continued to detoxify. We’re not the only mold avoiders who have to replace their mattresses frequently.
My friend and fellow mold avoider, Sara Mattson, told us, “Think of it as a medical expense, because if you think of it as a furniture expense it will be too painful.” No joke!
It’s hard to believe that we’re living in a cargo van, wear plastic sandals and clothes from Walmart and yet our expenses are still so high. What in the world?! We have no utilities and barely have any stuff!
It’s things like having to replace the mattress that really add up….and organic food. There’s no question that high quality food is a huge expense, especially here in the Midwest. Unfortunately, I feel pretty strongly that avoiding unnecessary toxicity is important for my continued healing.
So we’re doing our best. Brett is working long hours to generate more income by getting set up to start selling a few more online products. My big job right now is continuing to heal and to make that healing possible by dealing with the extra work that mold avoidance creates.
I’m just so thankful that Brett is able to work from anywhere and that I now have the strength to help by hand-washing all our laundry and cooking. It’s a difficult way of living but we’re doing it.
By the way, Brett and I made a beautiful PDF of my favorite resources for suffering souls. I created the content and he made it look fancy with his superduper graphic design skills. It’s available for free to my email subscribers. Click here to sign up and receive 5 Resources for the Suffering Soul.
