Day 56 | On Our Way to Wyoming!

May 4, 2017

We’re so excited! We spent all day driving today and only stopped in Colorado Springs to get food. I find that I tolerate Chipotle’s gluten-free burrito bowl really well so we’ve been able to get that when we’re on the road. Unfortunately, the bag the food came in was badly contaminated and I didn’t think to test it before Brett put it in the car.

Brett threw the bag out immediately but it was too late. The contamination got on my hands and my clothing, on the phone, and on the dashboard of the car. I rinsed my hands but the terrible itching didn’t stop. Then I got a rash up both arms. I took a deep breath and tried not to freak out. We could go to Walmart and get cheap t-shirts, pants and gentle soap to decontaminate. We did exactly that and the Walmart ended up being really good. I didn’t react to anything Brett got. Woohoo!

I scrubbed my arms and hands really well with soap and they felt much better. Then I rinsed my head, face, arms, lower legs and feet. I got in the car, changed clothes and felt much better immediately. Phew! Brett decontaminated too. Then we took a clean t-shirt and wiped the dashboard and phone with a little bit of soap and continued on our journey. We can’t wait to get to Wyoming!

Dear Ana and Brett, I’ve been reading your story for the last few weeks and believe the Lord lead me to your blog. It’s a story how I got here, but my heart was immediately touched. Brett’s dad was the instrument God used 31 years ago to set our lives on the path of home-educating our 5 children. What a blessing! Anyway, that just causes me to feel quite a concern for you both as I can not imagine one of my children having to face your circumstances. I also have suffered many health battles along the way so I can relate to physical suffering and the dilemma of figuring things out. But God!! This journey has caused me to know with out doubt that He alone is Faithful and True and more than able to perfect that which concerns you. I continue to praise the Lord for your testimonies, the joy of the Lord I see in your sweet faces and your willingness to share your story. I will be continuing daily to hold you both up before His throne of mercy. Philippians 3:7-3:14 Keep pressing to that high mark in Christ Jesus. I’m praying too that your van will be the great answer to our prayers and provide some much needed rest and reprieve for you, but also that your hearts and minds will find deep rest in Jesus. In His Abiding Grace, Yours truly
P.S. We have lived in the desert west of Death Valley for almost 40 years. I can really relate to much of what you have faced out there. I wished so much we could have offered you a place to camp, but after reading more, it likely wouldn’t have worked for you as we are in a small city. Perhaps when your health improves the Lord will let us meet. 🙂 At least now we know you are a women of “True Grit!!” Ha!Ha!

I’m so excited for you to get your van!!! All of your adventures remind me of trying to use “sterile technique” in the lab. We had sterile fume hoods with UV lights and had to change gloves and spray our hands with ethanol all the time. We even had a giant pressure cooker to sterilize our equipment. Even putting something down right side up vs upside down made a difference. What is so amazing to me is this: all that was to control the bacteria in one tiny spot. And most of those techniques don’t even kill mold spores! So I really relate to how much discipline this is taking, as well as patience and endurance and all the other feats of strength you do every day. I love you and miss you!

I’m so glad you guys are getting your van!! Yay! Finally! Praying for you, “that Christ would dwell in your hearts through faith, and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”
