When Recovery Gets Overwhelming

October 4, 2017

Sometimes recovery is exhausting and your body just needs a break. Relearning how to clean a bathroom and carry a conversation and use a microwave and unlock a door can be overwhelming. I tried really hard to write a post for today but it just wasn’t coming. I tried really hard to find the strength to get things done around the apartment but I just wanted to cry.

I’m sorry to disappoint my regular blog readers but I hope this is a good reminder to pace yourself if you are recovering from a chronic illness. You can’t reenter normal life all at once. Often relearning how to do everything is a fun and exciting challenge. But sometimes it’s just paralyzing and overwhelming. Maybe on those days your body just needs some rest so that it can focus on healing.

Brett reminded me that my body is working hard on getting stronger and that I shouldn’t pressure myself unnecessarily. So, I decided to take today off and save the blog post I was working on for Friday. Right now, I’m going to sit on the porch and rest while I breathe the good air.

By the way, Brett and I made a beautiful PDF of my favorite resources for suffering souls. I created the content and he made it look fancy with his superduper graphic design skills. It’s available for free to my email subscribers. Click here to sign up and receive 5 Resources for the Suffering Soul.

Hey Ana, don’t forget that your readers aren’t simply blog followers- tons of us are brothers and sisters in Christ and we’re praying for you! Any update at all, even if it’s a “failed” blog post is a chance for us to get inside your world and know how to pray for you more specifically ๐Ÿ™‚

It sounds like God has given you good wisdom to know how and when your body needs a break, and I pray he gives you peace and joy as you continue on your journey <3 xo

Rest as you’re able, Ana. I had a moment today, I thought I wouldn’t be able to go through with something exhausting. I took a break, ate some solid food, drank some water, rested, relaxed, read a book… and, to my surprise, was able to make it through the rest of the day without quitting early. Still not sure I should have pushed myself, but I think we end up asking ourselves that question a lot. When is too much too much? When do I try a bit longer? I’m glad you know when your body needs to take a break. Praying for you, my sister in Christ
