I finished all the laundry by 11am this morning! I couldn’t believe it! I was so encouraged! I guess that’s the difference that getting up early can make! It gives me hope that things will get easier now that we can get to sleep earlier.
Today was shopping day, so when I finished getting the last load on the line we headed into Rapid City. First we went to Walmart to pick up non-grocery items like trash bags and Simple wipes.
Next, we headed to the health food store to stock up on groceries. I created a new meal plan that will hopefully get us through a whole week, so the shopping took Brett a bit longer than it normally does. He’s such a good sport though and never complains about having to do it all by himself.
Since I’m not supposed to go into buildings, I stayed in the van as usual. It was so hot today! I definitely got a free sauna treatment! I hope I sweated out a lot of toxins! Haha. ๐
When Brett was finished, I helped him put away the groceries and we headed back to Walmart to buy some flowers for our hosts. I really wanted them to know how thankful we are that they’re letting us camp on their land! Truthfully, I feel bad that we didn’t get to do something like this sooner… But better late than never!
By the way, Brett and I made a beautiful PDF of my favorite resources for suffering souls. I created the content and he made it look fancy with his superduper graphic design skills. It’s available for free to my email subscribers. Click here to sign up and receive 5 Resources for the Suffering Soul.

July 4, 2017 at 8:19 pmOh, I do hope you can more consistently get to bed earlier. And, groceries to last a week sure seems a good plan… and maybe reduce a bit of stress. I saw your blog pop up so I HAD to quickly divert from Camp Like a Girl to read it! ๐ I sure don’t know how you handle the heat, though…I just melt thinking about it. Hoping & praying for some more consistent and better days for you two!

July 4, 2017 at 8:33 pmThanks so much Nanette! I’m SO glad to hear you’re reading The Beginner’s Guide and Camp Like A Girl. I really do hope some form of mold avoidance turns out to be doable and healing for Petra. When we first started this journey I was too sick to camp. So we did a month in an Airbnb in a “good location” and I made some health gains there that allowed us to start camping. Maybe there’s a stepping stone of moderate mold avoidance that would allow Petra to start healing enough that extreme mold avoidance would become possible. I don’t know.
July 5, 2017 at 1:43 pmNot sure if this is relevant, but I’m guessing from your response to Nanette it might be. I started a Facebook group “Biotoxin Avoidance for severe ME/CFS” (where we also include severe Lyme patients as well), which is attempting to modify Erik Johnson-style mold avoidance for the severely ill (especially those who have been at least 90% bedbound). I originally used an approach similar to yours, of staying in motel room in a “good location” for two weeks (which I jokingly refer to as my accidental mold sabbatical. Mainly trying to pass the message of the group’s existence onto Nanette in case it is perhaps useful for her. We’re still in the beginning stages of the group, but there are already a number of people there who have experienced dramatic improvements (from 0.5% normal energy to 70% normal energy in one case) thru the principles of mold avoidance.
July 6, 2017 at 1:10 amI think Sara wrote about a menu that used up the fresh meat first, then the rest of the fresh Vegi and then pasta and apples at the end of the week. It was ingenious!! You’re doing so good. I’m proud that I know you.
July 5, 2017 at 7:33 amAww! Thanks so much Margaret! Yes, she does have a cool meal plan! ๐
July 5, 2017 at 1:44 pmHeyyy, I use the Grassmilk yogurt too! That stuff is the best! ๐
July 5, 2017 at 8:00 amI know! It’s so good! ๐
July 5, 2017 at 1:47 pmJust curious, were you able to use yogurt post illness but before extreme mold avoidance? I’ve experienced a lot of improvement in food sensitivities with mold avoidance, but so far yogurt (which I grew up on practically) is being particularly stubborn.
July 6, 2017 at 1:13 amI’m happy to read such an encouraging post! It’s really impressive the way you two are managing a mold avoidance lifestyle. Will that cooler keep your food cold for an entire week? Praise God for your hosts!
July 5, 2017 at 11:47 amThanks Jen! It does if we keep replacing the ice. Right now it’s so hot we’re having to get ice every day or almost every day. 103 degrees out today! Thankfully there’s a gas station where we can buy ice really close.
