Day 70 | A Campsite with Water and Power!

May 18, 2017

We made it to Rapid City last night and slept at our favorite truck parking area. This morning we began our search for a good campsite.

We decided that it might be worth trying a more established campground. My reactivity is starting to go down and we figured there was a good chance that I’d be able to keep healing at a campground as long as I stay away from the dump station and any moldy RVs.

First we tried a place just outside of town but I didn’t feel that good about it and it was quite expensive. Next we decided to head into the Black Hills National Forest and look for a place to camp there.

We found a great campsite! It was raining so there weren’t a lot of other campers around either. Hooray!

Brett went into the building and reserved a spot for us that was as far away as possible from the RV dump station. Yippee! The best part? They have running water and power hookups! So exciting!

We did buy a Goal Zero solar power set up for our new van so that we could run heating mats in our bed at night and get a spin dryer that will make laundry a lot easier.

It takes a long time for the battery to charge with just the solar panels though and the heating mats drain the battery pretty quickly. Being at a campsite with power hookups means we can run the heating mats all night and you all know how much I hate the cold! Not to mention we can plug our Goal Zero in directly and charge it up must faster than with the solar panels alone. Especially on a rainy day like today.

And running water? What a miracle! It’s so convenient! I can just fill our laundry buckets straight from the tap! Imagine that?! 🙂

I send out a weekly digest with updates about our adventures. To receive these updates click here.
