Day 35 | It’s A Hard Knock Life

April 14, 2017

Note: Writing has been a real struggle for me today and I don’t feel like this post is very good. My brain fog seems to return whenever I have to spend more time in civilization.

Today was another long day on the road to Albuquerque. The 7 hour drive went pretty well and I only had to stop to decontaminate once.

Unfortunately, things got really rough when we arrived in the Albuquerque area and started looking for a place to sleep.
We were planning to find somewhere outside the city to sleep in the car and then look for a campsite tomorrow.

It took us more that 4 extra hours of driving in the dark just to find a spot. It was so hard to see anything! We drove out of the city in one direction but I reacted badly and we had to turn around and try another direction. We repeated this process again which included driving through a particularly bad feeling town twice. I got so tired of decontaminating!

In the end we tried 4 different spots that looked promising before landing on a decent one. I reacted badly to all 4 of them! Believe it or not, I’ve gone through 12 shirts in 2 days!

It was 1:30am when we finally found a decent spot. Unfortunately, it’s right next to a railroad track and two very loud trains have already gone by. Oh well, we knew this was going to be a rough transition. We’ll just have to deal with the noise tonight and get as much sleep as we can. We’re both way too exhausted to keep looking anyway.

I send out a weekly digest with updates about our adventures. To receive these updates click here.

Ana – My parents have 10 acres of land about 20 minutes east of Albuquerque. I don’t know if it would be a non-reactionary spot for you, but I’m sure they’d be happy to let you camp there as long as you need to if it is. Contact me via my email if you want to give it a try and I can put you in touch with them. Praying for you guys!

Really?! Oh my goodness! This is such a hopeful possibility! It makes me want to cry. That is so sweet of them to offer. I’ll email you shortly. 💚
