See You Later, Rapid City!

September 23, 2018

Charging the car battery with our solar panels didn’t take long at all on Sunday morning. We were back on the road in no time! I felt sick as we drove into the Black Hills but it didn’t seem quite as bad as the previous two times. Just some mild nausea, fatigue and a headache.

When we got to our apartment Brett went in to pack things up. When he came back with the first load, he told me there was a nice north wind. I often feel better when the wind blows from the north so I decided to walk Ramona on the trails behind our apartment. I felt somewhat weak but didn’t think it would do any harm. I’d take the shortest loop and go slow. It would be a nice way to say goodbye to the place we’d all grown to love.

Boy, was I wrong! I was about half way around the short loop when I started vomiting on the trails. I felt so miserable I almost started crying. I made it around the loop and back to the van but not without throwing up two more times. When Brett saw how sick I was, he started tossing things into garbage bags as quickly as he could. We were so thankful that we chose to avoid accumulating a lot of stuff this time around. It didn’t take him long to finish packing.

I thought I would feel sorrow saying goodbye to our apartment and our hills, but when the time came I was too miserable to care. I just wanted to get out of there! In some ways, feeling so sick made it easier because it eliminated any doubts about whether we could make Rapid City work right now. There was no way around it. It was obvious, that for whatever reason, Rapid City is no longer clear enough for me to keep healing.

Since I was so sick, my sister and brother-in-law drove out to Hermosa to say goodbye to us after Brett was done packing up the apartment. I felt a little better there, well enough that I certainly felt the sorrow (and cried!) when saying goodbye to my sister. I never imagined we’d have to say goodbye again so soon and so suddenly.

After the tearful goodbye we started our route to Las Vegas. This time it took me a little longer to bounce back from spending time in Rapid City, but I was feeling almost 100% better within two hours. Praise God for the locations effect!

By the way, Brett and I made a beautiful PDF of my favorite resources for suffering souls. I created the content and he made it look fancy with his superduper graphic design skills. It’s available for free to my email subscribers. Click here to sign up and receive 5 Resources for the Suffering Soul.
