Time to go Shopping!

October 1, 2018

This morning I tried to gather all our clothes from our apartment in Rapid City to decontaminate them with EM-1, but handling the clothes made me feel so bad that Brett convinced me to just throw them all away. Most of the clothes had been out in the sun for a whole week and I was still reacting to them. I thought I would be sad to lose all my favorite outfits, but I was just so relieved not to have to deal with decontaminating them. I was surprised how happy I was when Brett returned from tossing them all in the dumpster. I guess scrupulous mold avoidance really is the best path for me!

We spent the rest of the day shopping in Las Vegas. We needed some new curtains for the van because the original ones got torn up by a barbed wire fence and were very contaminated anyway. We also needed some odds and ends like a cutting board, silverware, a drawer organizer, new flip flops, a spray bottle and shorts (we both only had long pants).

I went into Target with Brett this time and I did just fine. I didn’t feel as good as I do in the pristine air but I decontaminated afterwards and didn’t experience any serious repercussions. It was fun to be able to go shopping together!

Then in the evening we placed our order for all our van upgrades. We got new solar panels, a Whynter portable refrigerator, new seat covers, two solar showers, and a pop-up shower enclosure from Wolfwise. We spent a lot of money but it was still less than all the apartment move in fees would have been. I really hope it works out!

By the way, Brett and I made a beautiful PDF of my favorite resources for suffering souls. I created the content and he made it look fancy with his superduper graphic design skills. Curious how you decontaminate after exposures?!

If we’re out and about, I rinse my head and change my shirt. Usually that’s enough to stop the reaction but even better would be to take a shower and change all your clothes. Last night I had a longer exposure and just rinsing wasn’t enough. I had to take a full shower with gentle soap and put on fresh clothes.
