Waiting (Im)patiently

September 8, 2017

We still haven’t heard back from the apartment complex and I’m a nervous wreck! We were both so anxious to hear back that we called them yesterday to ask about the status of our application. It turns out that they’re waiting to hear back from our previous landlord. We figured that might be what was holding them up. Ahh! I just can’t take it anymore!

I don’t feel like I can really give myself over to the excitement until we know for sure that we’ve been approved. So all I feel is this crazy tension in my chest. I don’t know if I’m happy or sad or terrified or eager.

In the meantime, I made a list of all the things we’ll need to buy for the apartment.
It isn’t a very long list. We’re not going to be getting any furniture except a new mattress to put on the floor and two beanbag chairs. That’s it.

We’re keeping it as simple and cheap as possible because we don’t really know how long this apartment is going to last or how long I’m going to last in this apartment. We know from experience that nothing makes you regret past purchases more than losing everything to toxic mold. So it seems best to keep it minimal for now.

The apartment building has carpet and drywall so it isn’t ideal from a mold standpoint. Leaks are inevitable and whenever that happens the drywall will be there for the mold to munch on. So, we’re not going into this expecting it to be a long term solution. We’ll be thrilled if we can get six months or a year out of it!

Hopefully, someday, we’ll be able to buy a house or cabin made from mold resistant materials like logs, adobe or steel. Then we will probably be able to invest in furniture we intend to keep. Thankfully, we’ve had six months of camping to learn that furniture isn’t necessary to happiness. (Though it certainly helps!)

Something that has really helped us indoors or in a vehicle if you have an extension cord and power source is the IQ Air Health Pro Plus filter. It has been worth every Penney and allowed us to clear from exposure even in not perfect places.

Thinking of things you need but most likely do not have in the van: A broom. A trash can. A plunger. Light bulbs.
    Good luck!

Praying this works out for you! I really sympathize with the trouble of finding a home safe enough for a hypersensitive person. I’m dealing with that again too. I agree with the air purifier suggestion. A good air purifier can help make a less-than-ideal indoor environment more tolerable. I have an IQ. Don’t know much about Oasis but they might have one that’s smaller and easier to move and less expensive, as long as it doesn’t produce ozone. Excited for you!

So exciting! Prayers coming your way!

Also, I don’t know if this would help you or if you would react or not, but I know that salt lamps can help purify air indoors. 🙂

    Dear Anna.
Best of luck with ur apt!!! I hope u get it. One thing I’ve learned about being mold sensitive is that some times we have to be pro active and clean the apt. We have two Austin health mate purifiers. And a really good HEPA vaccum cleaner. We have a balcony to sleep on with mosquito nets. We wipe things down periodically with Mold Control concordium, a sodium phosphate solution that doesn’t bother my MCS. We asked for an apt that haven’t been cleaned or remodeled. U might want a card table and chairs and a folding longer table for work ( or TV ). We use banker card board boxes to keep our work paper together an exchange them for clean Ins periodically. Just a few things. We use our camping chairs. We got cots with cheap hypoallergenic pillows. That’s it. A drying rack. ( the TV was a treat after a yr and a half camping etc with out one. ). Guess what I got a Ram city cargo van and I’m following you and Sara’s plan!!! So excited to have a camper once again. Camp like a girl stickers on the dash board!! Hope hope hope things work out with your health.

Thank you Patty! These are some great tips. We also got an Austin Air filter and a HEPA vacuum. That’s the first thing I’m going to do when we move in: Vacuum!

That’s so great that you got a cargo van! Yay! I hope it proves to be very healing for you. 💕
