Day 80 | Longing for Stability

May 28, 2017

Today, we got both got some work done before heading back to South Dakota. Brett on his new computer and me on my new phone. Hooray!

Then we started our road trip back to the Black Hills National Forest area. Our hope is to find an affordable campsite where we can stay for a few weeks without having to move around so frequently.

Paying some money to have a little more stability seems like it would be worth it. Especially if it means Brett can work more consistently and relaunch his online program. Our hope is to find a place with wifi so that Brett can work without having to go into town. Power would be nice too, so that we can heat water easily and use our spin dryer freely. It would also be nice if they had a bathroom that was free of mold. You can’t exactly dig cat holes when there are other campers around.

I researched campsites as we drove and started feeling a little overwhelmed. Why is everything so expensive? What if I react to the RVs? What if it doesn’t work out because I can’t be around campfires?

I picked a campground to try anyway and we called to chat with my family for a while. We arrived at the campground at around 9pm and I knew almost instantly that it wasn’t going to work out. I got really anxious, stressed and irritable out of the blue and for absolutely no reason. We left right away and I burst into tears. How are we ever going to find a good campground?

I was really upset and kind of irrational. I kept insisting that I wasn’t going to decontaminate because it was too cold and I didn’t want to use up my last clean shirt.

Brett calmly stated that he wasn’t going to force me to decontaminate but that he really thought I would feel better if I did. I finally agreed… and guess what? I felt better instantly! Surprise, surprise!

We decided to go back to Rapid City and sleep at our favorite truck parking area. We can worry about finding a campground tomorrow.

I send out a weekly digest with updates about our adventures. To receive these updates click here.
